History and Culture
With thousands of miles of rich Pacific coastline, the ancient Peruvians were among the first in the world to utilise the sea. Amidst the recently discovered ruins of Chan Chan, intricate carvings tell the story of a civilisation truly at one with the ocean. The ancient art depicts in vivid detail the belief system and daily life of the ancient Peruvians and shows a deep respect for the ocean and it’s power. Scenes with fisherman using the same reed craft still used today show how 3000 years ago surfing was born close to Chicama. |
